On Thursday, April 12th, at the Jackson Convention Complex, the Mississippi Economic Development Council recognized the Mississippi Scholar communities during its 63rd annual meeting. Attending the meeting and representing Jasper County were (L to R) Lela Bryan with Jones County Junior College and Bay Springs Rotary Club, Stringer Attendance Center MS Scholar Nicole Beavers with her school counselor Sonya Ready, Sylva Bay Academy MS Scholar Emily Gully, Jamie Holder of Hol-mac Corporation and Bay Springs Rotary Club, Bay Springs High School principal Chuck Jones with BSHS Scholar Chaqoya Duckworth, Heidelberg Academy MS Scholar Chad Herrington with headmaster Cythia Pouncey, and Kellum Kim of Hol-mac. Also in attendance but not pictured were Robin Mackinaw of Sylva Bay Academy and Senator Haskins Montgomery. These students along with twenty-four others from the schools in Jasper County will again be recognized at a scholarship luncheon hosted by the Bay Springs Rotary Club on April 23rd.
